Manual Therapy Certification Curriculum
IAMT has developed a unique curriculum of manual therapy courses specifically designed to provide clinicians with a solid foundation in both examination and treatment. Our curriculum is centered around clinical reasoning skills and is strongly evidence-based. Our teaching model ensures the therapist focuses not only on the source of the patient’s symptoms but also the causative factors. A variety of eclectic manual therapy and exercise interventions are taught by expert clinicians throughout our curriculum with a strong emphasis on patient outcomes and function achieved through constant assessment. The certification program consists of 8 Manual Therapy courses and upon completion candidates will be eligible to sit for IAMT’s COMT exam. These courses may also be taken independently of the certification curriculum.
This course reviews the application and reasoning processes behind manual therapy interventions and builds a framework for therapists to make clinical decisions based on sound reasoning and solid examination and treatment skills as previously instructed in the Clinical Decision Making for the Manual Therapist course. The course reviews the physiologic mechanisms and the principles behind manual therapy, clinical reasoning skills and clinical examination skills. We will review manual therapy techniques and exercise treatment interventions previously learned in the Cervicothoracic Examination and Treatment, Lumbopelvic Examination and Treatment, Upper Quarter Examination and Treatment, Lower Quarter Examination and Treatment, Exercise Prescription and Soft Tissue Mobilization and Taping Techniques courses. This course may only be taken once the participant has completed all 8 Manual Therapy courses of the certification curriculum. This course is aimed to prepare the participant for IAMT’s COMT exam.
